Using texts like "History of the Missions of the Ouachita," much can be
learned about this little parish with a big history. In the year 1859,
St. Mary's Catholic Church was a mission of St. Matthew's Parish; Fr.
Gergaud first visited the mission of Winnsboro in August 1859. Fr.
Gergaud said Mass at the home of L. Zimm, preached in the local
courthouse, and even won three converts for the Faith. Monday-Friday 8:00 am–12 noon

Mary’s is a small town Catholic Community in Jena, Lousiana with an
average Mass attendance of 35-50 people. Our parish church is a cozy
building with a sense of home about it, yet elegant and beautiful,

Saint Joseph Catholic Church is located at 703 Klock Street, seven blocks from U.S. Highway 71 in historic Cheneyville. The civil community was established in 1811 as a center of trade, shipping, and commerce for the plantation system that flourished in the community during the antebellum period. The vast sugarcane, cotton, corn, and rice plantations that presently operate in the area remain among the most productive in Louisiana.
