Our parish was established in 1915 and named Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.

Prior to this, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass was held approximately once a month in the home of Mrs. Thomas Lee McNicoll (nee Julia Vandergaer), better known to everyone as "Granny McNicoll". Mrs. McNicoll, along with other members of the congregation, held bazaars, sold gumbo dinners, popcorn balls and parched peanuts to raise money to build the church. Through determined efforts and many prayers, the first church was built in 1915.

Early parishioners of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, in addition to the McNicoll family, were the J. J. Andries, Henry Ehler and Shinn families. It would be several years before there would be a resident priest in Glenmora.

Parents played a big role in teaching their children catechism. First Holy Communion and Confirmation rites were held at St. Martin Catholic Church in Lecompte.

World War II had a big impact on the church in Glenmora. A resident priest was assigned to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and he was also responsible for St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Elmer and later for St. Jude’s in Sieper. Our first recollection of a resident priest was that of Father F. O. Couvillion. Following Mass at St. Peter’s, Father Couvillion would say Mass for the prisoners at Camp Claiborne, which was located between Elmer and Glenmora. Following World War II, Bishop Greco purchased several chapels from Camp Claiborne. One of these was brought to Glenmora to replace the existing Church. Holy Redeemer Catholic Church became St. Louis Catholic Church about this time.

The original church was converted to a Catholic elementary school, staffed by two sisters of the Divine Providence order. Father Gerard Ducote, pastor at the time, was instrumental in bringing this about. After closing the school, once again the original church underwent a conversion, but this time to four apartments. This provided an income for a financially strapped parish. The former chapel from Camp Claiborne, now St. Louis Catholic Church, was bricked several years after being moved to Glenmora and the interior of the church has been renovated several times through the years.

St. Louis had a resident priest until the retirement of Father Yves Robitaille in 1989. After his retirement, two sisters of School Sisters of Notre Dame, Sister Marie Brogan and Sister Mary Ellen Theriot, served our parish as Parish Life Coordinators. Interim priests were here for Masses on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation. Following the death of Sister Marie Brogan, Sister Mary Ellen was reassigned by her order.
